A recognized leader in both the engineering and construction industries, Donald has a unique background having developed hands-on experience in each. He has successfully organized, developed and turned around underperforming business units to deliver industry leading financial performance. Donald led the incorporation of technology applications into the businesses and was a pioneer in the integration of engineering and construction processes. He is known for his staff recruitment, development, and retention - exemplified by staff who have followed Donald throughout his career.
Industry Leadership
Donald was nominated for and accepted into the prestigious National Academy of Construction in 2019 and is widely known as an integrated delivery leader throughout the engineering and construction industries. He actively serves in leadership capacities on several professional organization boards, including ARTBA, CIRT, and the Beavers Construction Organization.
As CEO for the Branch Group, Mr. Graul led all aspects of the company’s operations balancing short and long-term goals, profitable growth, and return on investments. He focused on strategic issues as well as driving operational results. Additionally, he established overall corporate objectives in partnership with the Board of Directors and ensured that the company fulfilled its commitments to employee-owners, customers, and the communities in which the company operated.
In two years, Mr. Graul has led a turn-around of the company with double-digit increases in year-over-year performance on sales, gross margin, operating income and net income. The Branch Group is one of the most profitable and fastest-growing construction companies in the Mid-Atlantic region.

As a President at Parsons, he was responsible for directing all aspects of two strategic business units:
(1) the Connected Communities unit, a $400 million unit that was formed in 2018 to combine Parsons’ Smart Cities, Rail Transit, Aviation, ITS and Digital Solutions infrastructure technology sectors. Donald’s leadership enabled this unit to surpass 2019 financial targets and the unit’s first quarter 2020 exceeded forecasted plan by over 16%. And;
(2) the Construction unit, a 2012 Corporate investment initiative. In its first 2 years - while still an investment initiative – Donald’s leadership helped the group grow to nearly $400M (20%CAGR) in representative revenue, with gross profits over $40M (60% CAGR), and 2017 net profits in excess of $20M
About Donald
Industry Experience
Don Graul holds over three decades of awarded leadership experience in the Construction and Engineering industries. Before leaving corporate America to pursue his entrepreneurial aspirations, he earned C-suite leadership roles with both Fortune 500 and start-up companies. Throughout his career, Don managed some of the largest and most prolific projects in the U.S. and abroad. His most recent role was as a CEO where he was named a Virginia 500 Power leader for 3 consecutive years.
Don has earned a reputation in the industry as an exceptional partner and a leader who brings others along. His areas of expertise include; successful and record-breaking company turn-arounds, implementation of disruptive industry initiatives and building strong company cultures and employee engagement to drive business results
Don’s inspiration
Don’s pragmatic and collaborative approach to business and relationships was fostered as a young boy of humble means growing up in a tiny Nebraska farming community.
To pay his way through college, Don worked on his uncle’s farm and later would install irrigation systems throughout the U.S. and Saudi Arabia. It was through these experiences that he learned the value of hard work, how to navigate setbacks and the importance of building trust by honoring commitments.
Don’s north-star priorities remain faith, family and friends. These provide the energy, and inspiration for achieving career goals.
Education & Professional Leadership
Donald holds a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Nebraska and completed the Senior Executive Programme at London Business School. He is a registered professional engineer in several US States. In addition to his responsibilities at Parsons, Donald was just inducted into the National Academy of Construction, is on the ARTBA and Beavers Construction board, and is an active member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, the Associated General Contractors of America, the Design-Build Institute of America, and the Institute of Transportation Engineers
